Class I (III) Roanoke River, NC

Roanoke River State Trail (Roanoke Rapids Dam to Albermarle Sound)

Generally considered a moderately challenging route. This trail is great for birding, camping, paddling and fishing, and it's unlikely you'll encounter many other people while exploring.

This multi day paddling experience follows the Roanoke River 215.8 miles near Gaston, NC to the Albemarle Sound. Overnight primitive platform campsites are available throughout the route. Most paddlers complete this as a multi-day trip though, there are popular smaller day trips near the eastern end of this route.

Some campsites are accessible by vehicle and boat while others are only accessible by boat. Reservations for campsites and further information may be found at: Roanoke River Partners
